OUR STORY
Made in Canada, BEARDCHOICE was founded by a bearded dude from Montreal. The idea came after I went on a South-East Asia backpacking trip where I met a Yemeni Oud perfume crafter in Kuala Lampur. As a bearded man, I loved the manly Oudy smell of their perfumes. I quickly realized that back home, there is a lack of premium beard oil with expensive luxurious masculine ingredients such as Oud.
I became passionate about these exotic natural ingredients and later implemented their essential oils in our beard oil. My beard oil includes Cambodian Oud, Omani Frankincense Sacra, Omani Jasmine, Indonesian Sandalwood, Australian Buddhawood, Arabian Tobacco and Amberwood.
Oud is derived from the tropical agarwood tree which is reputed to be the most expensive wood in the world. Oud is thought to originate in Assam in India and when the tree get infected by a fungus known as Phialophora parasitica, it reacts by producing a fragrant resin to protect itself. It is the resin-embedded heartwood of the tree that is the source of oud. The trees are grown throughout south-east Asia and South Asia and agarwood is said to be the most expensive timber in the world - indeed, one of the most expensive of all natural raw ingredients. Agarwood has also been used to make high-quality incense for centuries. The Chinese use it for religious and festive celebrations, and so do Arabian, Indian and Japanese people. Agarwood is also part of many traditional pharmacopeias, dating back to medieval times and Chinese doctors still prescribe it for colds and digestion problem.
